Joe Burson
Officer Joe Burson completed the basic law enforcement training course and was sworn in as a Holly Springs Police Officer on March 20th, 2020. Chief Keheley said, Joe was a model officer. He did so much in the short time he was with the Holly Springs Police Department that he truly made a positive impact on his community and fellow co-workers. He loved talking with local children about being a police officer. He would take time to sit in the police cars, answer questions and let the kids see the police lights.
Officer Burson received Chief Commendation for quick thinking and good judgement in bringing offenders to justice and preventing harm to others on April 9, 2020. He received multiple awards and accolades based off his actions on the night of June 17, 2021. Additionally, he received Gold Shield Honors for 2021, and DUI Achievement Award for the number of DUI arrests presented through MADD.
Officer Burson was born December 21, 1996, in Atlanta, GA. He grew up in Acworth, GA went to and graduated from Kell High School in May 2015. He was in the Kell/Lassiter NJROTC Program. He was a drummer for the Kell Marching Band and later his own band, Makeshift Memory, and local band Rusted Soul. He was also a drummer at Eastminster Church and Revolution Church. Officer Burson graduated from Kennesaw State University December 2019 with a major in Criminal Justice.
Officer Burson married the love of his life Mary Kate on November 2, 2019. They enjoyed going on adventures together. Music was an important part of their lives and present at every big moment.

October 30th is now officially Officer Joe Burson day, proclaimed in Holly Springs and Woodstock, GA. We will forever honor his memory.
